- Data from December 2014. Most recent data: Further Eurostat information, Main tables.
This article is part of a set of statistical articles based on the Eurostat publication Smarter, greener, more inclusive? - Indicators to support the Europe 2020 strategy. It provides recent statistics on the Europe 2020 strategy of the European Union (EU), focusing on the situation in Netherlands.
Main statistical findings
The Netherlands already exceeded its tertiary educational attainment target in 2008 and the share of 30 to 34 year olds with tertiary educational attainment has continued to increase since then. Despite the adverse impact of the economic crisis on employment, the country was closer to its target of increasing its employment rate to 80 % than the EU average. Although remaining at some distance from the respective targets, the indicators on early school leavers and R & D expenditure have improved over the past few years. In contrast, the country was farther from its climate change and energy targets in 2012. It was among the countries farthest from their renewable energy targets and was only halfway to meeting its target on GHG emissions in non-ETS sectors. The situation concerning the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion has deteriorated since 2008, however, a comparison with the national target, referring to people aged 0 to 64 living in a jobless household, is not possible.
