Glossary:Business economy

The business economy is a grouping of the following economic activities: industry, construction, distributive trades and services.

This refers to economic activities covered by Sections B to N and P to R, as well as Divisions S95 and S96 of NACE Rev. 2 and the enterprises or its legal units that carry out those activities.

Industry:

  • section B: Mining and quarrying
  • section C: Manufacturing
  • section D: Electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply
  • section E: Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities

Construction

  • section F: Construction

Distributive trades:

  • section G: Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

Services:

  • section H: Transportation and storage
  • section I: Accommodation and food service
  • section J: Information and communication
  • section K: Financial and insurance activities
  • section L: Real estate activities
  • section M: Professional, scientific, and technical activities
  • section N: Administrative and support service activities
  • section P: Education
  • section Q: Human health and social work activities
  • section R: Arts, entertainment and recreation
  • division S95: repair of computers and personal and household goods
  • division S96: other personal service activities

The business economy does not include:

  • agriculture, forestry, and fishing (NACE section A)
  • public administration (NACE section O)
