The conference “Communicating Rural Development to Citizens” was held on 17-18 November 2011 in Milan. Jointly hosted by the ENRD, the Italian NRN and the Lombardy region, the event was designed to identify and share best practices in rural development communications across the EU.

The importance of Information Communications Technology (ICT) to the development of rural areas in Europe was the focus of an ENRD seminar held in Brussels, on 10 February 2011. The event entitled "ICT and rural areas: building the knowledge society at grassroots level" provided a useful platform for discussing the implementation of ICT policies in different Member States.

Some 300 ‘new’ Local Action Groups (LAGs) attended an ENRD event which provided training on the efficient implementation of Local Development Strategies, and best practice regarding transnational cooperation (TNC). On this occasion Commissioner Cioloş transmitted a recorded speech to welcome all participants.

“Semi Subsistence Farming in the EU” Seminar 13-15 October 2010

The small farm debate has taken on special significance with the last two EU enlargements of 2004 and 2007, more than tripling the number of subsistence and semi-subsistence farmers to 11 million in the EU-27. Some 140 people attended a seminar entitled ‘Semi-subsistence farming in the EU: current situation and future prospects’, organised by the ENRD in Romania in 2010.
EU Rural Cooperation Fair

The EU Rural Cooperation Fair was held at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Around 270 delegates from 23 EU Member States came to the two day event organised by the Scottish National Rural Network in partnership with the ENRD.
