
In Slovenia, quarantine has been going on for several weeks to prevent the propagation of the COVID-19 infection.
For the Ministry for agriculture, food and forestry, the population has become much more self-sufficient and residents are much more appreciative of local food, local providers and short food supply chains. Demand for food from farms and directly from growers has increased. Grassroots initiatives are promoting gardening and small-scale production of vegetables and spices.
Market places remain available to citizens. They represent a traditional place for the sale of food, seeds, vegetable seedlings, fruits and flowers. Letting them open - with strict safety measures to respect - contributes to preserve a sense of normalcy and a routine.
Local action groups (LAGs) are very active too. To further support local and homegrown food producers during the epidemic, they collect and share useful contacts on their websites.
An online map of farms selling food across the country has been made available with support by Ministry of agriculture and national funding.
