23 September has been designated by the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission as annual ‘EU organic day'.
This follows up on the Action Plan for the development of organic production which announced the creation of such a day to highlight the potential of organic production. Each year #OrganicEU Day will be celebrated on 23 September (commonly the autumnal equinox) to promote the key role that organic approaches can play in the transition to sustainable food systems.
Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski said during the launch of #OrganicEU Day that: “It is a great opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate organic production, a sustainable type of agriculture where food production is done in harmony with nature, biodiversity and animal welfare.” See a sample of tweets featuring Europe’s first #OrganicEU Day.
