A €1 billion contribution to the Global Forests Finance Pledge was made by Member States at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow in November.
This five-year package from the EU budget was launched by President Ursula von der Leyen who underlined its significance highlighting that: “Forests are the green lungs of the earth. We need to protect and restore them.” The new funding will help partner countries protect, restore and sustainably manage forests worldwide and deliver on the Paris Agreement.
