A public consultation is underway on the revision of animal welfare legislation as part of the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy. This 14-week consultation is open until 21 January 2022 with the aim to collect the opinions of the general public and different actors of the sector on a wide range of animal welfare-related subjects.
Agricultural livestock as well as other animals are included in the European Commission consultation which explores options for addressing shortcomings identified in current EU legislation on animal welfare. The ultimate aims are to ensure a higher level of animal welfare, to align European legislation on the latest scientific evidence, to expand its scope, and make it easier to implement.
