Stall description

The Marketplace stand is designed to inspire social innovators to create visions for rural Europe. It showcases social innovations that tackle the needs of rural areas and stimulating territorial development in different biophysical and socio-economic contexts.

The stand comprises videos and interviews with social innovators that provide insights to how communities and civil society have reconfigured governance and social practices. Examples relate to mitigating and adapting to climate change, reversing environmental degradation, providing local social services, facilitating social inclusion, empowering vulnerable groups, and creating new income streams through bio- or circular economic activities. The contents describes triggers of social innovations; evolutionary pathways; funding and support; challenges, barriers and crises points; and scaling up and out.

The stand features a video created for the Citizen Engagement and Deliberative Democracy Festival 2020, and training materials of the H2020 project on Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas. (www.simra-h2020.eu/).
