The RIA 2020 Award Ceremony is the final stage in a competition recognising projects from across the EU, promoting examples of bioeconomy activity and action on the climate. 71 entries were received from 19 Member States and this online award ceremony assembled the 15 finalists to award the three winners, one from each category, as selected through a jury process, and the winner of a public vote (see below).
Janusz Wojciechowski, European Commissioner for Agriculture, gave the opening remarks and announced the winners of the ENRD Rural Inspiration Awards on the evening of 25 June during an online ceremony.

Background & Purpose
The main aims of the RIA2020 competition are:
- To increase the visibility of rural development and the EAFRD's contribution to the Bioeconomy and the fight against Climate Change.
- To promote knowledge exchange and networking among rural stakeholders.
- To contribute to the ENRD's Thematic Group on Bioeconomy and Climate Action, organised by the ENRD CP for 2019-2020.
Format
The competition had four categories, three corresponding to the thematic group content and one for the popular vote:

Climate Change Adaptation
Thematic categories:
- Bioeconomy: the bioeconomy encompasses the production of renewable biological resources and the conversion of these resources and waste streams into value-added products, including food, feed, bio-based products and bio-energy.
- Climate Change Mitigation: meaning reducing greenhouse gas emissions or removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
- Climate Change Adaptation: increasing the resilience of Europe's agriculture and forestry industries to the adverse effects of climate change.
