Context:

All of the programmes that OLDC and RLP operate are involved in one or more of the following: a)developing and expanding services in the county, b)identifying the gaps in resources and services and working to address needs, c)Identifying which community resources people use and the assets therein, d)engaging and working with communities to improve existing resources
Participatory Asset Mapping is the tool to facilitate all of these in each of the counties. The process of mapping builds the capacity of individuals and communities to identify resources in their own areas through community engagement. Mapping technology engages the community organisations in the research process and is community and place based.

Project idea summary:

The mapping collects knowledge and expertise from community members about local assets and this in turn feeds into identification of community strengths and supports change initiatives which are subsequently undertaken by stakeholders and other investors in communities across Offaly and Roscommon.

With this in mind Offaly Local Development Company and Roscommon Leader Partnership have a vision that encompasses training of communities in key research concepts, identifications of assets, participatory asset mapping and the follow on community enhancement from the project.

Objectives:

1. Understanding current situation, key concepts, vision of overall project & components for procurement 2. Identification of software needs, including analysis of existing software providers & recommendation of specific elements for the project 3. Development of training programme through collaboration with partners & other stakeholders as needed, ensuring that training outcomes (e.g. Platform for increasing volunteerism, supporting Volunteer Organisations in communities to capacity build, identifying gaps in provision across the counties & allowing for meaningful & comprehensive future planning) are accounted for 4. Having analysed needs of the project, apply costs to all elements including training, software, operation & prepare the procurement necessary 5. Deliver operational plan
