European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle welcomed information from Podgorica that parliamentary parties have reached a preliminary political agreement on the adoption of the election law.On 21 August, commissioner Füle underlined the importance for the Parliament to adopt this law as soon as possible, and said that European Commission follows carefully developments in Montenegro including the country's continuing efforts to implement the seven key priorities set out in the Commission Opinion. "Election Law is part of the key priorities and therefore one of the conditions to be met by Montenegro in view of opening EU accession negotiations," stated commissioner Füle, and called it also a key test of parties' readiness to put their commitment to EU integration into practice."The consensus among political parties and within the Montenegrin society on EU integration is a huge asset for Montenegro's EU course. We encourage all sides to continue demonstrating statesmanship and responsibility on all issues related to Montenegro's efforts to fulfill the key priorities," added commissioner Füle.
