The Integrated Maritime Policy gains momentum

EU Integrated Maritime Policy is an important tool in boosting growth and creating jobs in Europe and is among the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency, which organises a high-level Ministerial Conference on the topic, in Limassol, on 7 and 8 October. The Conference is the opportunity to confirm a common commitment towards the objectives set in the Blue Growth Communication, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Christofias, the President of the European Commission, Mr. Demetris Christofias, the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso and Commissioner Maria Damanaki. During the meeting, the Cyprus Presidency is aiming to adopt the Limassol Declaration, which will become the milestone for the future development of the EU Integrated Maritime Policy.
Arctic Futures: A global partnership for the Arctic?

Commissioner Damanaki delivered a keynote speech at the 3rd edition of the Arctic Futures Symposium. The conference is the opportunity for business representatives, NGOs, policymakers, scientists, academics to discuss future scenarios for the Arctic. Other keynote speakers include Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Belgian Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders. In July, Commissioner Damanaki and Vice-President Ashton have presented a Communication outlining the EU's future contribution to the Arctic region.

A sustainable future for fisheries

Commissioner Damanaki intervened at the seminar "Future Fisheries", organised in Brussels by the University of Tromsø (UiT). The seminar is to present Norwegian research related to the governance challenges that fisheries management is facing from an international perspective, with a particular focus on European fisheries and the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy.
