With broadband now capable of delivering large volumes of digital content at high speed, one major task for the EU is to protect the interests of creative content providers and users as the digital revolution continues. This will promote the growth of a potentially huge market for creative content online.
Issues include:
-
ensuring premium content is available to stimulate public take-up of broadband services (now widely available in Europe).
-
copyright – ensuring digital content is available under the right conditions. Far from being an obstacle, intellectual property rights are vital for a competitive and thriving creative sector (they encourage investment, growth, job creation and cultural diversity).
