Common term: Urban cluster; Plural: Urban clusters;
Short definition: An urban cluster is a cluster of contiguous grid cells of 1 km2 with a density of at least 300 inhabitants per km2 and a minimum population of 5 000.
Long description: The calculation of urban clusters is done in two steps: First, all cells with a population density of 300 inhabitants per km2 are selected. Secondly, these contiguous cells (including the diagonals) are grouped.
The contiguous groups with a total population of 5 000 or more are defined as urban clusters.
