Programme Manager, RESTORE
Antonia Scarr

I am the project coordinator for the RESTORE EU LIFE+ project.  RESTORE is a partnership for sharing knowledge and promoting best practice on river restoration in Europe.  We believe that bringing people together to share information and knowledge is the most effective way to make connections, linkages and support networks between organisations and groups working in river management and restoration. We do this through a range of events, website, social media and conferences.

Environmental and water issues are central to my career and academic background.  I have developed broad experience in a number of positions within the Environment Agency in the past eleven years, including biodiversity officer, technical specialist and senior marine advisor for our Head Office.  I have particular expertise in rivers and estuaries having worked on licensing, planning, restoration and water management schemes.  My experience in national UK environmental issues is now being augmented by pan-European environmental management exposure.  In my spare time I am attempting a PhD and I volunteer for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and crew a lifeboat on the estuarial Thames.

Recipes for Success: This presentation will highlight the European-wide value of RESTORE an EU LIFE+ project.  One of the limitations to delivering river restoration is the lack of shared best practice and knowledge across Europe.   We have created a website www.restorerivers.eu which is a focal point for pooling information and sharing experience within the European river restoration community.  It will also host an online WIKI of river restoration case studies.
