Graph of the week: Ireland's economic recovery

Euro area finance ministers meeting in Milan over the weekend discussed Ireland’s request to repay a large share of its IMF loans ahead of schedule, a move which would significantly reduce the country’s interest payments.

Ireland successfully completed its EU-IMF financial assistance programme in December last year and investor confidence has been restored.

Perhaps the best illustration of Ireland’s economic recovery is its success in creating new jobs:

Ireland has significantly reformed its labour market over the past few years. Although some reforms are still in progress, Ireland is already seeing results. In 2013, employment rose by 2.4% year-on-year, even better than the economy as a whole. The upward trend has been maintained in 2014.
