Conference "The Economic Aspects of the Energy Sector in CIS Countries", Moscow, 27 June 2008
On June 27 2008, a high level Conference was held at the premises of the EU
Delegation in Moscow, Russia. That conference was the culmination of the
"road tour" to disseminate the ECFIN Economic Paper n. 327.
This comprehensive study, coordinated by Lúcio Vinhas de Souza at the
Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG-ECFIN) of the
European Commission, focuses on the macroeconomic aspects of the energy sector
in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and on some
of the challenges for fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policies arising from
their reliance on the energy sector, including fiscal rules, resource curse,
Dutch disease and quasi-fiscal activities. The study also covers selected
aspects of the EU-CIS energy relations, looking at the potential of the CIS
region as a source of energy supplies for the EU and also at current trends and
reform options of the energy sector in the CIS countries.
The full study, with Executive Summaries in Russian and English, has been
published as the Economic Paper no 327 of June 2008.
