At the informal ministerial meeting of Ministers responsible for the Cohesion policy, in Poznan Commissioner László Andor stressed the importance of "achieving the Europe 2020 growth targets by concentrating on key investment priorities and with a strong inclusive dimension". The two-day meeting was an opportunity to present the Commission proposal for the new European Social Fund (ESF) 2014-2020 and its relation to the other structural funds.

The European Commission is accelerating its efforts for economic renewal, with moves to further strengthen euro area governance, safeguard future financial stability and boost growth and employment. The package adopted today contains: the 2012 Annual Growth Survey setting out the economic priorities for 2012; two Regulations to tighten economic and budgetary surveillance in the euro area; and a Green Paper on Stability Bonds.

Speaking at the closing event of the 'Healthy Workplaces Campaign 2010-2011 on Safe Maintenance', in Bilbao Commissioner László Andor reminded that "regular maintenance is essential to ensure business continuity and keep the working environment safe ". Mr Andor stressed the Commission's commitment to improve health and safety at work in the EU.

Speaking at the 6th meeting of the European Platform for Roma Inclusion, in Brussels Commissioner László Andor reminded that Roma inclusion is a challenge for the EU as whole, but progress depends on national and local efforts. "Societies where Roma do well will be more cohesive and more prosperous too. There is no trade-off between economic efficiency and social equity", Mr Andor said.

Hearing the news that the European social partners have decided to negotiate on new working time rules, László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion welcomed the move saying: "I am very pleased that the social partners at EU level have decided to enter negotiations after the Commission's consultations with them on reviewing the Working Time Directive. This is a very strong vote of confidence in the potential and importance of European social dialogue."

EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor was in Geneva today to address and take part in discussions with the tripartite Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The meeting focused on the social dimension of globalisation and the crisis.

Commissioner László Andor opened today’s stakeholder conference on flexicurity, in Brussels stressing that employment and labour market reforms are part of the solution for the current economic and financial challenges. “They are an essential ingredient for whatever recipe the EU finds to pursue its journey of integration”, Mr Andor said.
