Sampling plan | |
Type of consignment | Procedure |
Consignment for customs clearance | The aggregate sample consists of an appropriate number of incremental samples. When you are satisfied the consignment is homogeneous, one incremental sample is usually taken as representing the goods covered by the same customs declaration. The minimum size of sample must correspond to approx. 1 m2 rolled or folded in A4 size. |
Bale or bundles, packing case, parcel or pallet load | Equal quantities of incremental samples are taken from different packages found at different positions in the transport vehicle or in the storage facility by random selection or systematically. Avoiding all damaged sheets, take sufficient sheets from different selected units to provide enough sample for the requested testing (see recommended minimum quantity). If known, mark the machine direction on the sheets. If the unit is composed of elements (reams of parcels) packaged together, assemble all the selected units and select elements from them using the same method that was used to select the units from the consignment. |
Reel (Roll) | Equal quantities of incremental samples are taken from one or more positions throughout the consignment, from different units by random selection or systematically. Remove all damaged layers from the outside of each selected reel plus three undamaged layers of paper or one undamaged layer of board. Then cut the same number of sheets from each selected reel to create a final sample. The number of sheets taken from the lot must be sufficient to provide enough sample (see recommended minimum quantity). The sheet may be taken directly from the real or the real may be cut across its full width, the pile of cut sheets allowed to fall to each side, the reel removed, and the sheets cut from each pile. If the unit is a package that cannot be completely unwrapped, cut window(s) of dimensions approx. 45 cm x 45 cm. Through window, cut to a sufficient depth to enable withdraw the number of sheets to create a final sample. Remove all damaged layers plus at least three outermost undamaged layers of paper or one undamaged layer of board. Vary the position of the window(s) within and between units. |
Individual articles | 1 or more representative pieces are taken depending on the size of the article. Where the article is small (all dimensions up to 10 cm) ensure that the final sample consists of at least 3 pieces. |
