Executive Vice-President Fitto attends General Affairs Council on Cohesion to prepare the future of Cohesion Policy

Today, Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto will attend the General Affairs Council on Cohesion, taking place in Brussels. Ministers responsible for cohesion will discuss how to make Cohesion Policy more dynamic and strategic, while laying the foundations for the post-2027 programming period.

The policy debate will focus on how Cohesion Policy can better deliver both now and in the future, supporting the EU’s key objectives such as competitiveness, resilience, and social and territorial cohesion. Executive Vice-President Fitto will use this opportunity to inform Ministers about the outcome of extensive consultations held with Member States, regions and local authorities over the past months, ahead of the upcoming mid-term review of cohesion policy programmes.

The discussion will be followed by the adoption of Council Conclusions on ‘Cohesion and Cohesion Policy post-2027’. These Conclusions represent a key contribution by Member States to the ongoing reflection on the future of the policy, outlining a common vision of how Cohesion Policy can remain a central pillar of the European project.

The meeting will also include the presentation of a non-paper from Romania, supported by the Friends of Cohesion group of Member States.

A press point will take place at 12:45 in the Justus Lipsius Building’s press room.
