New Cross-Border Train Line Connects Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, Makes Waves Across Media and Social Platforms

The Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE SUSTANCE project launched a new train line connecting Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, creating significant media buzz and attracting travel vloggers, showcasing sustainable cross-border transport and enhancing regional tourism and cooperation.

The SUSTANCE project, an initiative focused on improving sustainable public transport across central Europe, recently celebrated a major milestone with the launch of a direct train service linking Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. The first train journey from Trieste to Rijeka not only marked a significant advancement in cross-border connectivity but also drew substantial attention from the media, social media influencers and travellers. This connection is part of the pilot phases of the SUSTANCE project worth €2.1 million, 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the INTERREG Central Europe Programme.

This new train line, a cornerstone of the project's broader objectives, exemplifies the potential for seamless, eco-friendly travel across national borders. By connecting key cities in three countries, the service enhances regional mobility and fosters greater economic collaboration and tourism opportunities.

The launch event was widely covered by major news outlets, and the presence of travel vloggers added an extra layer of visibility. These influencers documented the journey, sharing breath-taking views and the ease of travel with their large online followings. The widespread coverage has amplified the project's impact, turning it into a hot topic of discussion in transportation and sustainability circles.

This successful implementation of the SUSTANCE project underscores the importance of transnational cooperation in building sustainable transportation networks that not only benefit the environment but also drive economic growth and cultural exchange across Europe.
