As extreme weather events intensify, it is key to prioritise disaster risk prevention and mitigation. This is why the Cohesion Policy Programme Environment 2021-2027in Bulgaria is set to build robust disaster risk prevention and mitigation systems, and earmarked more than EUR 186 million for this purpose, with significant investments 2021-2027 due to implement flood risk management plans and strengthen firefighting capacities.

And as awareness raising is fundamental to mobilise everyone, the Programme takes part in the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-61) held in Sofia with the "Horizon" initiative.
The initiative will transform between 27 and 29 July the facade of the National Palace of Culture with 3D art projections and dynamic images, showcasing the importance of addressing climate change, the crucial role of science in developing solutions, and our individual responsibility in this global effort, culminating on 27 July in an aerial art installation featuring 200 drones projecting the key messages to mobilise Bulgarian citizens and the 500 delegates from 150 countries who meet in Sofia From 27 July to 2 August 2024 to address urgent climate issues for the 61st session of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Supported by the Environment Programme 2021-2027 and Sofia Municipality, the "Horizon" initiative will be an unforgettable reminder of the inseparable bond between humanity and nature, emphasizing our collective duty to safeguard the future of our planet.
