Danube Forum 2023: focus on enlargement and common challenges in the Danube macro-region

The Danube Forum 2023 takes place on 24-25 October in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, and is co-organised by the Republic of Slovenia, the European Commission and the Danube Region Programme.

The focus of this year’s Forum will be EU enlargement and support to the accession countries, the recovery of Ukraine, energy and transport challenges of the Region, youth involvement in the Danube macro-regional strategy and professions of the future.

Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said: The Danube region is essential for the progress of the European project and the well-being of its 115 million inhabitants and 14 member countries. I hope that the discussions during the Forum will bring closer cooperation in the region and progress in the 12 priority areas of the Danube Region Strategy.

Commissioner Ferreira will open the annual forum through a video-message. Other key speakers include Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of European and International Affairs of Austria, and other ministers from EUSDR countries.

The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission in December 2010 and endorsed by the European Council in 2011. It is the second EU macro-regional strategy after the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
