€17 million of EU funds for the extension of the water and sewerage infrastructure in Gorj County, Romania

Today the European Commission has approved an investment of almost €17 million from the Cohesion Fund for the extension of the water and sewerage infrastructure in Gorj County, Romania.

The main purpose of the project is to expand the water supply systems with 14km of new water mains and 79km of distribution systems. In addition, the rehabilitation of 47 km of water mains and 95 km of distribution networks is planned. The rehabilitation will reduce the water losses and 82.200 inhabitants will be provided with improved water supply, of which 6207 will be newly connected.

Effective treatment of sewage and increased connections to the network will reduce pollution of rivers and reduce water losses from ageing infrastructure. The project will also ensure a safe, reliable water supply that complies with EU legislation for the population of Gorj county.
