THOREAQ: EU-funded innovation hub for construction sector unveiled

Today, THOREAQ, an innovative laboratory and testing place for the construction sector, was inaugurated in Genk, Belgium. This initiative, a collaboration between VITO and EnergyVille, supported by EUR 630 850 from the European Regional Development Fund, marks a new step towards achieving the European Green Deal's objectives.

Featuring two identical test dwellings and facilities, THOREAQ is well-equipped to develop sustainable construction practices. With a focus on testing innovative renovation techniques, integrating smart energy solutions, and exploring automated construction processes, THOREAQ stands as a proof of progress in the transition towards climate-neutral buildings by 2050, a goal set by the region.

The EU-funded realization underscores the collaborative efforts driving sustainable innovation in the construction sector. As THOREAQ emerges as a key player in reshaping the construction landscape, it holds the promise of creating a more sustainable and resilient urban environment for future generations.

Moreover, with its commitment to revolutionizing robotics and automation, THOREAQ is also set to drive impactful shifts within the construction sector. As it integrates into the Open Thor Living Lab's district heating and DC grid, THOREAQ will further enhance its impact by facilitating energy exchange with neighbouring buildings.
