A grand opening is set for October 19, 2023 for the newly established infrastructural complex of the Center of Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). This event will also mark the official presentation of the new Bulgarian supercomputer named "Hemus’’.

The ceremony will commence at 10:00 a.m. in the hall of the high-performance computing complex, which is housed in the data center of the "Science Complex - 1" at BAS.
Following the inauguration, the program will continue with a presentation showcasing the integrated research infrastructure and highlight the center's most notable achievements. The Bulgarian prime minister acad. Denkov and the Head of the representation of the European Commission in Sofia Boyko Blagoev together with other official guests, representatives from the academic and business communities, the project leaders responsible for the construction of infrastructure facilities, and members of the media will be present as well.
This comprehensive infrastructure complex comprises four primary layers, featuring supercomputer-type resources, a data storage system, local application development centers, and digitization facilities. It represents an integrated platform that connects the entire computing ecosystem, encompassing network and computing resources, data storage resources, and a suite of services and tools designed to serve multidisciplinary scientific communities.
The infrastructural complex has been completed under the framework of the project "Center of Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies", financially supported through the Operational Program "Science and Education for Smart Growth" for the period 2014-2020, funded by the European Fund for Regional Development. The total amount of the financing amounts to BGN 29,355,861.12, of which BGN 24,952,481.95 (85%) are provided by the European Fund for Regional Development and BGN 4,403,379.17 (15%) are national co-financing. The project's implementation timeline spans from August 3, 2018, to December 31, 2023.
