For 35 years, Interreg has represented a cornerstone of European integration, promoting cross - border, transnational, interregional and outermost region cooperation to drive growth, innovation, and inclusion in all regions of Europe. It is recognised as a key instrument building solidarity, trust and mutual understanding across the EU’s internal and external borders.
The Interreg GO! event will take place on the 27 and 28 March 2025 in a highly symbolic location for cross-border cooperation — the twin cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, situated on the Italian - Slovenian border. These cities jointly hold the title of European Capital of Culture in 2025.
The conference will be a key milestone in the preparation of the future post-2027 Interreg programmes. It will present the results of public consultations for the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework. These consultations involved all Interreg programmes, key stakeholders and, for the first time in history, almost 15 thousand citizens living on the territories covered by Interreg activities.
Discussions during the event will focus on the role of Interreg territorial cooperation programmes in addressing shared challenges and opportunities, such as border security, environmental threats, cross-border cultural heritage preservation, prevention of natural disasters, reducing obstacles in public services and people to people projects. Cooperation with EU candidate and neighbouring countries, including the neighbours of the outermost regions, will also be key topics.
The event will feature high-level speeches and panel discussions with the participation of Mr Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, Ms Marta Kos, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Mr Aleksander Jevšek, Minister of Cohesion and Regional Development of Slovenia, Mr Massimiliano Fedriga, President of the Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Mr Jan Szyszko, State Secretary in charge of Cohesion Policy in the Ministry of Regional Development of Poland, Mr Marko Koprivc, State Secretary in the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development of Slovenia, Mr Younous Omarjee, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Mr Juraj Droba, Vice President of the Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget (COTER) of the European Committee of the Regions.
The Interreg GO! event is expected to welcome approximately 500 local, regional, national, and European decision-makers interested in post-2027 EU Cohesion Policy and in its cooperation and enlargement dimensions.
The event will feature a concert by the Tartini Cross-Border Youth Orchestra and the premiere performance of #FreeFromBorders, a contemporary interpretation of the inspiring music of the "Master of Nations”, Variations on a Theme in A Minor by Giuseppe Tartini.
The conference is organized in partnership with the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme, the EGTC GO!, the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region in Italy and the Ministry for Cohesion and Regional Development in Slovenia, as well as with Interact.
