RESILIENT BORDERS: Funding cross-border crisis management and spatial planning
Resilient Borders. EU-funded project supporting spatial planning and crisis management in cross-border regions

DG REGIO funds 20 pilot actions for the creation of joint cross-border plans for crisis management and spatial planning. Public entities and cross-border structures can apply until 30 November 2024 to receive funds to make their territories more resilient.

‘Resilient Borders - Cross-Border Spatial Planning and Crisis Management Pilot Actions’ is a newly launched initiative of the European Commission for border regions. With financial resources put at disposal and dedicated support, actors in border regions can receive aid to set up joint plans in two key fields: Cross-border Crisis Management and Cross-Border Spatial Planning

Resilient Borders is jointly managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT). The two associations have just launched a call for proposals open to public entities and cross-border structures located in border regions of the EU and its neighbouring EFTA countries.

Selected beneficiaries will receive a grant of up to 40,000 € to create a plan that coordinates local actors to face crisis jointly, or to design common governance through cross-border spatial planning.

The call for proposals is open until 30 November 2024 and is accessible here.

The winning pilot actions will be implemented in 2025 and will represent true innovative approaches for border regions to collaborate on relevant topics which enable a coherent, joint development of the cross-border territory.

Resilient Borders builds on the knowledge gained in two publications released by the European Commission this year:

- Strengthening the resilience of EU border regions. Mapping risks & crisis management tools and identifying gaps, which can be accesses here;

- Cross-border Governance Framework and Tool, accessible here.

Interested actors are invited to learn from the examples used here to prepare own joint plans.
