The island of Porto Santo is rehabilitating its windmills and public fountains.
The island nicknamed “the Golden Island” played a key role as Madeira’s granary which led to the construction of its famous windmills in the 19th century. The rehabilitated windmills and public fountains provide a unique tourist experience.
The European Union contributed 85% of the project costs.
