Upper Rhine taps into local expertise in Quantum Science
Quantum Valley of the Upper Rhine
- 05 May 2025
Quantum science is currently at its peak and the players in the Upper Rhine region are playing a decisive role in it. In the areas of research, education and innovation, there is a unique expertise in the Upper Rhine Region, which, despite its geographic proximity, cannot be fully exploited at present due to local directives and heterogeneous administrative frameworks, which make structured cross-border cooperation difficult.
By creating an integrated and sustainable ecosystem in the fields of education, research, specialised infrastructure, technological know-how and knowledge transfer, the UpQuantVal project – an operation of strategic importance – aims to contribute to overcoming these difficulties. Actors from research and innovation organizations, the private sector, regional authorities and decision makers in the cross-border area need to develop more effective, sustainable and close cooperation through long-term strategies. The results of this work will be collected and recorded and will eventually serve as a model for future European cooperation in the field of quantum physics.
The subsequent establishment of a structured network will enable economic actors in the Upper Rhine region to benefit from access to a wide range of specialist knowledge made available by academic and research partners. Joint cross-border training activities are also organized for this purpose.
Finally, common communication strategies will ensure the anchoring of a sustainable exchange between the different actors. The strengthening of cross-border cooperation and the new impetus emanating from the UpQuantVal project will help to present the Upper Rhine as a custodian of a competitive and attractive innovation network, tapping into high level skills and a highly-qualified workforce as well as leading to the creation of new jobs.
