Tram refurbishment brings transport and tourist benefits to Szczecin, Poland

The extensive redevelopment of parts of the tram network in the Polish city of Szczecin – made possible thanks to the EU funding – will bring long term benefits to citizens and commuters living and working in the area. The project has successfully strengthened transport links within the city, and adapted lines to accommodate new low-floor trams that provide greater comfort and access to disabled passengers and those with reduced mobility.

New motorway to ease travel through the Czech Republic

Two sections of motorway, totalling 25 km in length, between Tábor and Veselí nad Lužnicí in the Czech Republic's South Bohemian Region have been constructed with EU financing. They are to form part of the D3 motorway, which will provide a high speed road connection between the Czech capital, Prague and the Austrian motorway network. It will also complete a modern motorway link from Germany to Austria across the Czech Republic.

Significant upgrades for road linking Zalău and Răstoci in north-west Romania

European Union co-financing has contributed to the rehabilitation of a section of Romania’s national road DN1H in Sălaj County, in the country’s North-West Development Region. The stretch of road is 53.377 kilometres long and runs between the city of Zalău and the village of Răstoci.

New port facilities to increase shipping capacity in Western Greece

The construction of a fifth dock along with associated infrastructure will significantly increase shipping capacity at the Greek port of Patras in Western Greece. This will contribute to the economic revival of a region in Europe that has been characterised by high unemployment.

EU funding supports acquisition of vessels to rescue migrants at sea

Co-financing from the European Union enabled the Italian Coast Guard to buy and put into service two offshore patrol vessels for rescuing migrants who get into difficulty attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. In line with the European migration agenda, the project helped the authorities to improve migrant rescue measures. This comes against the background of significant increases in migration by sea from north African countries towards the Italian coast in recent years.
