When distributing Cohesion policy funding to programmes running between 2021 and 2027, the Commission can make three types of payments:

• Pre-financing payments. Such payments are made in yearly instalments between 2021 and 2026 and amount each to 0.5% of the total support from the Funds set out in the decision approving the programme .

• Interim payments. Member States can submit a maximum of six payment applications per programme, per Fund and per accounting year. In case of serious deficiencies or irregularities in the management of the operational programme, interim payments can be suspended until measures have been taken to address these problems.

• Payment of the annual balance. To receive a final payment of the annual accounts from the Commission, the Member States must submit the relevant assurance package by 15 February of the year following the final date of the accounting year, which includes the accounts, the management declaration, the annual audit opinion and the annual control report for each programme.
