Strengthening Innovation Systems
About
A functioning innovation system, whereby stakeholders involved in innovation have the mechanisms and infrastructure to foster knowledge creation, distribution, and diffusion, is the backbone of Smart Specialisation.
This is why the fifth fulfilment criterion of Policy Objective 1 “A smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation” is precisely concerned with this aspect. Regions have indeed been required to devise “Actions necessary to improve national or regional research and innovation systems”.
Significant attention is to be placed on the instruments that sustain research and innovation processes, taking into account the specific stage of development of the ecosystem and bringing it to the next level.
