To prepare the mid-term review and the post-2020 period, several studies have been launched.

The study "Support of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds) to the implementation of the Country Specific Recommendations and to structural reforms in Member States" is managed by DG EMPL in cooperation with ESIF DGs.

The link between the ESI Funds and the European Semester, whereby the Funds focus on the implementation of the Country Specific Recommendations (CSR) and their underlying challenges, has been strengthened in the new programming period.

The objective of the study is therefore to assess how ESIF funding contributes to the implementation of structural reforms by Member States, in particular to those which were put forward in Country Specific Recommendations (CSRs).

The findings will feed into further reflections on how to strengthen the policy-orientation of the ESI Funds in the future.
