Developing people, their skills and talent, is crucial for ensuring the long-term competitiveness of Europe. It is also key for promoting social cohesion – helping all citizens to benefit from the more and better jobs on offer. The EU has a broad set of policies aimed at tackling the issues that undermine Europe’s competitiveness. Many of these set out to improve higher education and vocational training programmes, to up-skill the workforce across Europe, and build better links between these training providers and industry to ensure that the skills they teach match those that companies need, today and in the future.
