The new EU strategy for the outermost regions, one year on - Mayotte

By encouraging the outermost regions to capitalise on their unique assets, the strategy seeks to help them create new opportunities for their people, boost innovation in sectors like agriculture, fisheries or tourism, while deepening the cooperation with neighbour countries. One year on, the main developments in the Mayotte are:

• Improved competitiveness thanks to the support from the Agency for the Development and Innovation of Entrepreneurship and the Internationalisation of Enterprises through actions such as «Invest In Mayotte» aimed at strengthening the appeal of the region;
• Support for researchers through the Horizon 2020 «FORWARD» project aimed at strengthening their presence in European and international innovationnetworks and their ability to participate in research projects;
• Energy transition encouraged by multiannual energy programming, particularly in terms of the development of renewable energies and sustainablemobility through an experimental electric car project.
