Programme description
The programme will invest in Romania’s West development region – in the counties of Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin and Hunedoara – in line with five cohesion policy objectives for the 2021-2027 programming period. EU funds will be used to both address regional development challenges, such as territorial disparities and climate change, and contribute to the EU objectives of a green transition and digital economy.
In practice, the programme will invest in:
- Increasing research, innovation, and related skills, the competitiveness and digitalisation of SMEs and digital services for citizens and businesses;
- Improved energy efficiency in residential buildings, and in public buildings with social functions, creating and modernising green spaces in urban areas – on brownfields, abandoned and degraded land;
- Sustainable mobility through procurement of environmentally friendly rolling stock and strengthening the inter-county public transport system. In parallel, the programme will invest in the construction and modernisation of county roads connected to the TEN-T network;
- Build and renovate primary, secondary, vocational and higher education facilities; develop and valorise tourism facilities, recreational infrastructure and school camps;
- Rehabilitate and revitalise urban public spaces, implement New European Bauhaus initiatives, conserve and restore cultural heritage buildings and cultural infrastructure in urban areas.
