Programme description
The funding will help the counties of Hunedoara, Gorj, Dolj, Mureş, Prahova and Galaţi preserve jobs by diversifying their local economies and preparing the workforce for the green transition, while improving the attractiveness of these regions for economic activities and day-to-day life.
This programme addresses climate change in the most affected territories, regarding pollution levels and expected job losses in less-developed regions. Romania has committed to phasing-out coal by 2032.
Support for these regions aims to:
- Prepare the labour force for the green transition through skilling and reskilling;
- Ensure economic diversification by investing in SMEs;
- Develop business support infrastructure and services;
- Rehabilitate brownfields and abandoned industrial sites for use as green spaces, social housing or economic activities.
