Programme description
The multi-fund European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) programme is Romania’s main instrument to boost access to – and the quality of – health services. This will allow Romania to advance the overdue upgrade of the national health infrastructure and improve service delivery. Interventions will focus on reducing inequalities, targeting vulnerable groups, while improving the effectiveness and resilience of the healthcare system.
The programme aims to:
- Increase the quality of primary and community healthcare and outpatient services;
- Strengthen preventive services;
- Increase the effectiveness and resilience of the health system in areas of strategic importance;
- Allocate resources for rehabilitation, palliation and hospitalisation for chronic diseases related to an ageing population;
- Invest in new hospital infrastructure;
- Invest in oncology and transplantation.
The programme will also finance health-related research, development and innovation and digitalisation of the health system.
