Programme description
The National Programme Metro+ and southern medium cities supports the territories of 14 metropolitan cities in Italy. Funding is allocated to measures in the sectors of digital services for citizens, social inclusion of disadvantaged groups, energy efficiency, green infrastructure, public buildings and support for sustainable mobility. Moreover, new measures addresses issues such as the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage and the development of sustainable tourism. Other measure will intervene in the field of security with actions aimed at upgrading the peripheral areas of metropolitan cities, including those in the south.
On the other hand, the National Programme Metro+ will intervene also in medium-sized cities in the south of Italy (located outside the perimeter of metropolitan cities) by funding inclusion measures to reduce poverty and exclusion. This will be achieved through coordinated actions for social inclusion and innovation aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens living in suburbs and marginal areas.
The Programme contributes also to the implementation of those macro-regional and basin strategies covering the urban areas concerned: EUSALP (Northern Metropolitan Cities), EUSAIR (Metropolitan Cities and Medium-South Cities located on the Adriatic-Ionian side) and WESTMED (Metropolitan Cities and Medium-South Cities).
Moreover, by sharing and encouraging urban initiatives supported by the European Urban Initiative (EUI), the National Programme will promote synergies with innovative urban actions, capitalising on the experience of the thematic partnerships of the European Urban Agenda. It will also support the promotion of new project partnerships between European cities, capitalising on the experiences and results of the URBACT programme and other Interreg programmes.
Finally, the National Programme will promote the New European Bauhaus methodological approach.
