Programme description
The programme aims to address the biggest economic, environmental and social challenges of the region. It also aims at supporting the growing key sectors identified in the regional smart specialisation strategy, which include the chemicals industry, renewable energies, water or natural habitat.
The ERDF will support the development of new research and innovation capacities, by boosting knowledge transfer between the region’s research centres and enterprises. It will also finance uptake of innovative technologies and support to small and medium-sized enterprises through grants and financial instruments. Finally, it will also provide funding for skills development in the strategic business sectors of the region.
On climate change, the programme will invest in boosting energy efficiency for the public sector while integrating renewables in the energy mix and improving waste management. A critical mass of investments will also be mobilised to improve the situation of the Mar Menor lagoon thus preserving biodiversity.
Finally, investments will tackle social challenges by providing social housing and by improving primary health care centres.
