Programme Baleares ERDF 2021-2027

Programme description

The programme sets out to address the main challenges that hamper regional competitiveness. Namely, the small and medium enterprises’ (SMEs) low level of productivity, the lack of innovation, the reduced access to external markets and the strong dependence on tourism. In addition, the programme addresses environmental and climate vulnerability linked to insularity, such as pressure on natural resources and dependency on external energy.

The ERDF will support new scientific and technologic infrastructure for the benefit of SMEs, applied research projects and technology transfer between research centres, businesses, and the University. It will also support the digitalisation of public services and businesses thus increasing SME competitiveness in sectors with high added value.

The programme will also support energy-efficient renovation of public and private buildings, along with the production of renewable energies, including through local renewable energy communities. Efficient use of water resources also plays a key role and will benefit from several water treatment plants.

The programme will also promote the transition to a circular economy by investing in separate waste collection systems and waste treatment at local level. In addition, investments will support sustainable urban mobility, mainly in the functional urban area of Palma de Mallorca.

Finally, the programme will support educational infrastructure, the rehabilitation and construction of social housing for disadvantaged groups and the new symphonic orchestra of the Balearic Islands.
