Programme description
The programme aims to contribute to the region’s economic development by investing in business competitiveness, sustainability, and social inclusion.
Through the European Regional Development Fund, the EU supports Asturias in the digital and smart transformation of its economy. It fosters collaborative research, supports entrepreneurship and innovative start-ups. It will further encourage the use of emerging technologies in public services as means to enhance the sustainable growth, competitiveness and job creation in small and medium-sized enterprises. The programme will invest in new digital public services, with a focus to the needs of rural and depopulated areas.
The green transition is a central priority in the programme. Thus, it will devote resources towards energy efficiency measures, like the deep renovation of public buildings and increasing energy generation from renewable sources. Additionally, the programme will support the upgrading of water management, to prevent the waste of water. Coherently, the programme will support climate change adaptation projects, which ultimately contribute to protecting nature and biodiversity, one of the region’s main assets.
Finally, the programme aims to reinforce the region’s social accessibility and quality of services, by investing in education centres and in health infrastructure, both in primary care and hospitals.
