Pluri-regional programme Spain ERDF 2021-2027
Programme description
The programme aims at boosting investments in key sectors across Spain, for the benefit of the people and businesses. Less developed regions and those facing more acute challenges stand to benefit the most from a shift towards a smarter, greener more competitive Europe, one that is closer to citizens’ needs.
Through the European Regional Development Fund, the EU helps the Spanish regions achieving the digital and smart transformation of their economies. It does so by fostering collaborative research, supporting technology transfer and innovative start-ups. Moreover, it guidesthe mainstreaming of emerging technologies in public services and enhances sustainable growth, competitiveness, and job creation in small businesses.
In addition, the programme aims to reduce energy emissions and facilitate the transition towards greener solutions, such as clean energies, railways and sustainable urban mobility. In that respect, the programme will enable important investments in renewable hydrogen and thorough renovations of public buildings to save energy. Citizens will also benefit from measures aimed at climate change adaptation, preparedness against natural disasters, sustainable water management and protection of nature.
Finally, the programme contributes to tackling territorial disparities, by investing in sustainable development in urban and rural areas. These actions are based on a participative mechanism at local level. This method ensures a more effective financial support and an impact that match more closely the citizens’ needs.
