ESF+ Basic Material Assistance

Programme description

The ESF+ national programme for basic material assistance supports families in severe poverty through vouchers and cards for essential items such as food and hygiene products. The programme focuses on families with dependent minors living below the severe poverty line, specifically those with incomes less than 40% of the national median income.

In addition to material assistance, personalised measures are in place to enhance social inclusion, including a social diagnosis, information on available resources, and referral or reorientation to social, educational, and health support. The programme also funds a series of services, programmes and activities geared towards social and labour market insertion.

By focusing on families with dependent minors, the programme contributes to Spain's 2030 poverty reduction target under the European Pillar of Social Rights, aiming to reduce the number of people in poverty by 2.8 million by 2030, including at least 713 000 children.

Expected impact

More than 1 116 000 people will benefit from vouchers/cards to purchase food and hygienic products.
