Programme description

The Programme seeks to strengthen and diversify the production system of South Aegean, by adopting a strategy for the broadening of the tourism product, ensuring sustainability of resources and strengthening territorial and social cohesion for the benefit of its residents and visitors. It includes actions to strengthen local research, develop digital applications in the fields of culture, tourism and tele-medicine, promote the digitalisation of SMEs and support entrepreneurship.

The green transition of the region is also supported through actions to upgrade the energy efficiency for public buildings, support of anti-flood and coastal erosion projects, projects to upgrade the water supply network and completion of wastewater treatment infrastructure.

Through the ERDF and ESF+ funds, regional education, social and healthcare services will also be reinforced, with actions aiming to improve quality and accessibility of services and actions to support the most vulnerable groups. Priority is given to improve employability, boost equal access to and inclusion in education and to actions for the integration of third-country nationals into the labour market.

Finally, the Programme comprises actions to upgrade intra-regional mobility and improve road safety, actions to regenerate urban and non urban areas of the region and promote culture and tourism through the implementation of Integrated Territorial Investments, thus improving the citizens’ quality of life.
