Programme description

The Programme seeks to strengthen and diversify the production system of Ionian Islands, by adopting a strategy for the broadening of the tourism product, enhance entrepreneurship and strengthen regional innovation. It includes actions to help small and medium enterprises to become stronger and more competitive, develop digital applications for both public and private sector and promote the regional economy.

The green transition of the region is also supported through energy saving in public buildings, actions to prevent and manage climate-related risks, support to energy communities and improved solid waste, wastewater and water management system.

Through the ERDF and ESF+ funds, the EU supports the region to upgrade the Technological and Educational Equipment in Primary and Secondary education and improve the regional educational, social and health care facilities and services for the benefit of the citizens. Moreover, the programme aims to improve the conditions of the professional integration of vulnerable social groups, encourage the participation of people with disabilities in active social life and support the modernisation of social protection systems.

Finally, it also comprises actions to regenerate urban and coastal areas of the region, promote cultural wealth and improve the citizen’s quality of life through the implementation of Integrated Territorial Investments.
