Dytiki Makedonia

Programme description

The Programme aims to support the development of Western Macedonia through research and innovation, support to start-ups, social cohesion and prosperity for all. It will assist the green and digital transition of the region and will contribute to making it more competitive, better connected, more social and inclusive, and closer to citizens and their needs.

Through the ERDF and ESF+ funds, the EU supports the region to invest in greener energy solutions, protect the environment and strengthen social cohesion. People will benefit from improved energy efficiency in public buildings, upgraded water and wastewater facilities, mitigating measures to tackle climate change, better, more inclusive and accessible education, social and health care services. Attention is given to the vulnerable population.

In addition, the programme seeks to help small and medium enterprises to become stronger and innovative in order to tackle the region’s high unemployment rate, create better quality jobs and be more prepared to compete in the global market. Training measures and interventions to support social entrepreneurship are also envisaged.

Finally, it also comprises actions to regenerate urban and rural areas of the region, promote natural heritage and cultural wealth and improve the citizen’s quality of life through the implementation of Integrated Territorial Investments.
