Programme description
The Programme inspires to upgrade the role of the Region, by promoting the qualitative development, active environmental management and dynamic social cohesion.
In particular:
- The program targets the productive and competitive transformation of Central Macedonia and support actions to enhance the regional ecosystem’s capacity to innovate and strengthen public and private research infrastructures, intensify the penetration of innovative ICT solutions and support the regional businesses community.
- With respect to green and sustainable development, the programme will support the energy efficiency for public buildings, finance anti-flood projects, develop climate-resilient urban spaces and invest in wastewater infrastructure and water supply network in a holistic way.
- As regards the interconnectivity of Central Macedonia, the aim is to complete the regional and local roads hence resulting to improvement of the road safety.
- In the social front, the ERDF will support actions to complete and modernise the educational premises, upgrade childcare facilities, modernise health infrastructure and purchase the necessary equipment of social care units.
- Better jobs and a safer working environment for the people of Central Macedonia are targeted by supporting access to qualitative employment opportunities, delivery of active and healthy ageing policies and the development of the social economy sector.
- An improved quality of life for the people in the Region is supported under ESF+ which ensures availability of social, educational, healthcare and long term care services in particular for marginalized communities and vulnerable groups. [such as persons with disabilities, migrants and the Roma minority.]
- Children have a better start in life through the measures delivered under the EU wide Child Guarantee initiative which supports their participation in early childhood education and care programmes, an inclusive educational environment for children with disabilities and integrated measures to reduce child poverty.
- Integrated territorial developemnt in urban areas is a key growth driver in Central Macedonia and aim to support the Metropolitan Functional Area of Thessaloniki, and two other major urban area, namely Serres and Katerini.
