Programme ERDF 2021-2027 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Programme description

The programme has four main objectives:

  • Boosting innovation, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups,
  • Fostering energy efficiency and intelligent energy networks at local level,
  • Enhancing climate protection by protecting bogs and diversifying forests and
  • Promoting more inclusive urban areas.

The EU supports research and development projects in universities, research institutions and private companies. This makes the local economy more competitive and creates new jobs. Moreover, the transfer of knowledge and technology fosters collaboration between academia and the private sector. An equity fund helps creating new start-ups.

The EU-funds also improve the energy efficiency of private companies and public buildings such as educational infrastructure. Similarly, energy infrastructure such as storage capacities and heating networks are further expanded.

Thirdly, the programme finances the protection and rewetting of bogs, a powerful CO2 sink, and afforestation and forest conversion measures. This makes local forests more resilient to climate change.

Lastly, the EU and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania support sustainable urban development and promote social cohesion. They finance educational infrastructure projects (schools, day care and after-school care centres and sports venues), and promote cultural heritage.
